SOS Children's Village Khairpur


The SOS Children's Village Khairpur is situated on land donated by the Government of Sindh. In its first phase, five family homes out of fifteen have been built and were inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Sindh in February 2016.

Khairpur is a city and the capital of the Khairpur district in Sindh province, Pakistan. It is the 12th largest city in the province and 46th in Pakistan. The city is situated along the Khairpur East Canal, 11 miles south of the Indus River. It is connected by rail with Peshawar and Karachi and by road with Sukkur and Karachi. It was a Princely state of Pakistan from 1947 till 1955. After the establishment of the state of Pakistan in 1947, Khairpur developed industrially, with textile, silk, leather goods, silk clothing, matches, soap, shoes, and carpet manufacturers. The city has a population of 183,181 according to the 2017 census of Pakistan.

Construction of SOS Children’s Village Khairpur:

The Sindh Government allotted land free of cost, land measuring about 10 acres and also gave a grant of Rs. 50 million in May 2012. It was decided to split the project into three phases, with the 1st phase comprising five children’s homes and all infrastructure facilities including a community center, children’s activity rooms, an auditorium, residences for the Village Director and guests, theatre, etc.

The highly functional and good-looking design of all the facilities attracted very favorable comments from all concerned. The 2nd phase was completed in June 2017 with the completion of the other four houses, while the remaining six homes were completed during the 3rd phase in October 2017.

The village can accommodate up to 150 children. The main stakeholders for this program include the local SOS Voluntary Committee, SOS Children’s Village Sindh, SOS Pakistan National Office, the Government of Sindh, the Khairpur District government, the Social Welfare Department, employees of SOS, and the surrounding community.

SOS Khairpur also includes a “Youth Home” which was donated by the Sindh government in October 2019 and functional since October 2020, it has a capacity of 25 beds.

SOS Khairpur has a school named “SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Khairpur” which has a total of 16 classrooms each class has a capacity of 25 students, its land was donated by Sindh Government in May 2012 but its construction was started in May 2018 and it has been functional from 1st February 2021. Currently, there are 156 children enrolled including outside students.
