Quetta
The SOS Children's Village Quetta moved in the first group of 26 children in November, 2008. Previously the children had been accommodated in a temporary SOS Children's Home which was opened in a rented building in 2005. As the number of children increased, a second house was acquired for this purpose.
The Government of Balochistan has been most supportive of our efforts and, in 1996, allotted us a 4 acre site near the designated Industrial Area. Unfortunately, there has been no development in that area, so it was not feasible to establish a project in such isolation. In 2006 it was decided that we should proceed with the planning and, the concerned authorities were approached, for exchange of the land with a more appropriate site. Within a very short period of time this had been approved and we were allotted a 5 acre site, in an excellent location in Samungli.
Since fundraising was presenting a problem, it was decided to first construct the infrastructure for the future SOS Youth Home, which is considerably smaller than a Village. This is now complete and, in the first phase, has been designated as the SOS Children's Village. It includes four independent units, which can accommodate up to 50 children, and common facilities which include a computer room, TV room, library, administrative offices and a spacious playground. The construction of the main Village, which will be adjacent, continues and, the timeframe for completion depends on the availability of funds.
Donations are invited and appropriate acknowledgement will be made.
