| The SOS Children's Village Karachi was opened in 1987 and comprises of 15 family homes and other essential facilities. It is situated on a 7 acre site in Malir, donated by the Government of Sindh. One of the major problems facing the management has been the lack of sweet water but, despite this, they have managed to maintain the gardens and provide the children an attractive environment. The children lead busy lives and, besides many extra curricular activities, are provided assistance with their studies. As in all projects, stress is laid on scholastic achievement as it is important that the children realize their full potential. |

| The SOS Medical Centre for Women and Children is situated within the premises and offers free treatment to the community. A doctor is available on a daily basis. |

| The adjacent SOS Hermann Gmeiner School and Junior College operates a double shift and accommodates 1300 students. The results of the Board examinations are excellent and the school has now been upgraded to Intermediate level, offering subjects leading to professional courses. This institution has made a big impact on the existing educational standards and is recognized as one of the best in the area. |

| The SOS Youth Home is still located in rented premises but a permanent facility is under construction and will be ready shortly. A generous donor provided the land and others have made the construction possible. The boys benefit from the provision of good facilities, both while attending school and also training in different organizations. They are also fortunate to have an active scouting programme in which the PIA Scouts take a keen interest. |

| Yet another addition to the facilities available in Karachi will be, the soon to be completed, SOS Technical Training Institute, Korangi which is being constructed by the INFAQ Foundation. This has been purpose built, according to our specifications, and when completed will be handed over to us for commissioning. This will go a long way to ensure job eligibility for the youth who avail of the training programmes. Courses will be structured for both boys and girls. |
